    报告简介:Our goal in this study is focused on the interaction between waves and tidal currents near the inlet and its effect on residual flow and sediment transport. To simulate circulation and waves at New River Inlet, NC, USA, a nearshore community model, NearCoM-TVD, is used in this integrated observational and numerical modeling study. NearCoM-TVD (Shi et al., 2012, Chen et al. 2014, Coast. Eng., in review), is a quasi-3D nearshore circulation model coupled with spectral wave model SWAN, along with a couple of sediment transport formulations (Soulsby (1997); Kobayashi et al. (2008); van Rijn et al. (2011)). The model is validated by observed waves and circulation at 30 locations for a range of flow conditions during the month of May 2012. Model skill is evaluated at various locations throughout the inlet, including a recently dredged navigation channel, a shallower channel, a flood tidal shoal, and ebb tidal deltas. The model is expected to exhibit the highest skill in the channels. The model is next used to study tidally-averaged residual flow patterns and sediment fluxes under a more energetic wave condition. The modeled tidally-averaged residual flow patterns show that waves play an important role in vortex generation and strength of landward-directed currents near the inlet entrance. The modeled tidally-averaged residual sediment fluxes can reach the outer part of inlet channel in a 6-meter depth which is much further than that without waves. These sediment flux patterns are consistent with the residual flow pattern. Our findings suggest waves play critical roles in the morphological evolution on ebb tidal deltas.
