Institute of Coastal Resources and Environment(Institute of Storm Surge, Disaster Mitigation and Prevention)

The Coastal Zone Resources and Environment Research Institute, one of the key construction research institutes of the national 211 project,was established in 2010 on the basis of the Storm Surge Disaster Research Institute,actually one team with the storm surge disaster research institute.

The Institute is mainly engaged in research on coastal marine environmental dynamics and disasters, coastal ocean environmental monitoring and information technology, coastal zone and ocean resources development and utilization, coastal buildings and coastal environment.

The main symbolic achievements are:

(1)In the research of coastal disaster prevention and mitigation, storm surge forecasting models have been developed in the East China Sea, South China Sea and Fujian coast,as well as the astronomical tide forecasting model based on the automatic optimization technology of tide distribution, the completed numerical forecasting model of astronomical tide and storm surge of water conservancy system provides coastal water regime information for the national flood prevent regime aggregator.Relevant research achievements include frequency analysis of storm surge, flood and regional rainstorm, comprehensive mathematical model of flood and storm surge in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, operational storm surge numerical prediction in Guangdong Province, study on the joint numerical model of typhoon storm surge and typhoon wave on Jiangsu coast and dynamic mechanism analysis of storm sudden deposition in the Yangtze River estuary

(2)In the investigation of coastal resources and environment, advanced investigation equipment and methods are used to carry out the investigation of topography, hydrology, sediment, sedimentary geology.Such as the national key project Research on Marine Hydrometeorology (meteorology, tidal level, thermohaline, sediment concentration, sea ice) of Lianyungang Nuclear Power Station, the national 908 project Jiangsu Coastal Zone Survey and Island Survey Dissertation and the Fujian 908 project Mathematical Model and Environmental Research of Fujian's Main Bay (Sansha Bay).

(3)In terms of planning and management of coastal zone resources and environment development and utilization, and demonstration of sea area use.Site investigation, mathematical model, geographic information system and other means were used to carry out research and planning of estuary regulation guideline of Jiangsu's rivers flowing into the sea, planning of reclamation and development of coastal beaches, marine functional zoning and other related planning research and demonstration of sea area use.

(4)In terms of wave, tidal current and sediment movement research, provide technical support for national key projects (such as Caofeidian Industrial Zone Layout Plan Research), military projects.

Since 2000, presided over and undertaken a number of scientific research projects, including the national 973 plan, the 863 plan, the public welfare project of the Ministry of water resources, the natural science foundation project, relevant projects of the provincial government and a number of coastal development and engineering construction projects.The research results are in the leading position in China and at the advanced level in the world.Have won a number of awards, including the National second prize for scientific and technological progress, the National third prize for scientific and technological progress, the first prize for scientific and technological progress of the ministry of water resources, the second prize for scientific and technological progress of Fujian Province, and the Excellent Achievement Award for water conservancy science and technology of Jiangsu Province.

The research institute has an academic echelon that combines old, middle-aged and young people, interdisciplinary integration and sustainable development. There are currently 3 professors, 5 associate professors and 9 lecturers, among whom 11 have doctorates.Mainly composed of young and middle-aged backbone members. The vast majority of them have experience of studying and further studying abroad,have strong scientific research strength, rich accumulation of subject business, reasonable echelon structure and wide coverage of research direction. The subjects involved include harbour and waterway engineering, coastal and offshore engineering, coastal zone resources and environment, physical ocean, marine geology, marine biology, marine remote sensing and other subjects.

The research institute is equipped with satellite cloud image receiving device, digitizer, server, marine hydrological field observation and other equipment, which can receive and process large quantities of data.
