On August 25th, the excellent scientific and technological innovation team of Jiangsu Institute of Higher Education “Comprehensive management and protection of estuaries and coasts”, which is led by Prof. Zheng Jinhai, successfully passed the acceptance check. The acceptance check meeting was held at Hohai University and chaired by Prof. Zhang Jianyun of Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute, the academician of China Academy of Engineering. Prof. Yu Xiping of Tsinghua University, Prof. Li Shaowu of Tianjin University, Prof. Dong Guohai of Dalian University of Technology and Prof. Wang Yaping of East China Normal University served as acceptance check committee members. Mr. Zhang Zhaochen, director of science, technology and industry section of Jiangsu Education Department participated the meeting. Prof. Ji Bohai, director of science and technology department of Hohai University, presided over the meeting.

The excellent scientific and technological innovation team “Comprehensive management and protection of estuaries and coasts” was established in June 2015. It aims to providing scientific and technological support for estuary management and coastal protection by cultivating and gathering research strength, tracking research frontiers of disciplines and serving major national requirements. With the fundamental problems of water and sediment dynamics in the field of estuary management and coastal protection, the comprehensive techniques of theoretical analysis, numerical simulation, physical model test and field observation are adopted to carry out in-depth research.

Prof. Zheng Jinhai reported the team development from four aspects: team building, main research progress, task completion and future development plans. During the last 3 years development period, the team won 4 provincial and ministerial scientific research achievements, 26 authorized national patents, 1 registered computer software copyrights, 4 publication monographs,55 SCI papers, 11 English translated water transport engineering standards and specifications, 7 persons selected into the provincial and ministerial talent plan scheme, 3 new innovation and entrepreneurial doctors of Jiangsu province,1 postdoc selected into the China Association for Science and Technology Young Talent Lifting Project, 1 postdoc selected into the national postdoctoral innovation talent support plan, 6 post-graduate students obtained outstanding doctoral or master degree theses of Jiangsu province, outstanding practical achievements of national professional degree graduate students in water transport engineering and outstanding practical achievements of national master’s degree in engineering. The team helped the “Oceanic Science” pass the acceptance inspection of the second period of the construction of advantageous disciplines in Jiangsu province, and helped the Key Laboratory of coastal disaster and protection of the Ministry of Education and the Jiangsu Coastal Development and Protection Collaborative Innovation Center to pass the periodic assessment.

After questioning the team members and consulting the relative documents, the committee reckoned that the team had made rich achievements in the research and engineering application of extreme wave generation and evolution mechanism, wave nonlinear interaction mechanism, multi-scale and multi-factor coupling evolution simulation method, successfully completed the scheduled tasks and agreed to pass the acceptance check.
