Discipline: Engineering (08) First-level discipline: Hydraulic Engineering (0815)
Harbour, Coastal and Offshore Engineering is subordinate to the first-level discipline Hydraulic Engineering. With “attaching equal importance to both harbour and waterway engineerings, giving considerations to both the sea and the river” as its distinctive feature, Hohai University has cultivated a lot of excellent talents, obtained scientific research achievements of originality, solved many key technical issues of large-scale engineering projects, won 6 National Awards for Science and Technology among which 3 were the first prize in the recent 60 years teaching and scientific research practice. The subject is one of the earliest founded and cultivating the most students.
The subject is one of the National Key Subjects, having the State Key Laboratory of Hydrology-Water Resources and Hydraulic Engineering and the Key Laboratory of Coastal Hazards and Protection of the Ministry of Education. Currently the faculty member includes 15 professors, 25 associate professors, 41 lecturers, among whom there are 13 doctoral supervisors, 40 master supervisors. Since the "11th Five-year Plan", we have undertaken scientific research tasks with the total funds amounting to 1.8 billion RMB, published 25 monographs and textbooks, won more than 40 provincial and ministerial awards of science and technology, published more than 1300 academic papers.
The major career choices are the water transport, water conservancy, marine sections and navy related sections, working in the areas of planning, surveying, designing, construction, management, teaching, scientific research related to harbour, waterway, coastal and ocean engineering.
